Our products are used by millions of passionate and engaged users every day, and our strategy of providing journalism worth paying for has helped us grow our digital subscription and advertising businesses simultaneously.

As a Program Manager II, you will manage the lifecycle of key and complex initiatives. You will orchestrate this by working with partners and software development teams in different ways, from developing a delivery plan, identifying initiative milestones, managing cross-team dependencies, and establishing operating models for initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiative Leadership—work with cross‑functional partners to guide multiple types of software development initiatives from creation through completion, navigating evolving requirements, changing priorities, and making effective, well‑informed decisions to propose solutions.
  • Collaboration—guide the teams and important cross‑functional partners to navigate challenges on the road to delivery; influence teams through servant‑leadership.
  • Visibility—ensure shared understanding of initiative goals and success criteria across the entirety of teams/partners involved; communicate and guide a free flow of information with and among partners on all matters.
  • Transparency—track and communicate initiative status, risks, and emergent issues; organize complicated information so that it is accessible to varying partners and can be kept current with minimal overhead.
  • Communication—effectively communicate complex technical information to non‑technical audiences and tailor messaging for various stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Impediment Removal—proactively identify, track, and elevate current and potential roadblocks to team throughput and program success; develop and propose viable solutions, then guide the team in their execution.
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in program management.
  • 3+ years experience running digital/software development programs.
  • Effective communication of strategies, goals, and program status to on‑the‑ground teams, technical and non‑technical partners, and senior leadership, demonstrating clear understanding.
  • Experience with software development practices and knowledge of Jira, Google Workspace, and other project management tools.
  • Proven ability to present complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Reporting to a Director of Program Management in the PMO.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to configure and incorporate generative AI tools, AI‑powered agents, and automations into day‑to‑day program management workflows to enhance efficiency while maintaining human oversight and judgment.
  • Comfort evaluating and piloting emerging AI capabilities in partnership with engineering, data, and newsroom stakeholders, ensuring responsible use aligned with The Times's mission and values.
