Job summary

Access Mammoth seeks a Program Manager to lead adaptive recreation programs at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, overseeing staff, interns, volunteers, logistics, and safety. You will coordinate with partners and donors to fulfill the organization's mission.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in recreation management, preferably adaptive recreation.
  • 3+ years supervising staff and volunteers/interns.
  • Experience with guest service, communication and problem solving.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred; familiarity with payroll and labor laws.
  • PSIA/AASI Level 2+ or BICP Level 1+ or CPR/First Aid/Lifeguard certification.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive trailers.
  • Experience budgeting and writing grants; working with partners.
  • Experience serving people with disabilities and families.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee adaptive recreation program delivery including personnel management, area maintenance, safety, technology, and guest relations to run daily lessons, camps, and events.
  • Oversee recruitment and retention of university and noncredit interns.
  • Support trainers during daily morning clinics, assign topics, and split groups as needed.
  • Manage guest service and recovery.
  • Demonstrate clear, compassionate communication in all interactions.
  • Provide guidance to leadership on staff and volunteer development.
  • Manage and report on program budgets, payroll, and personnel.
  • Analyze data to ensure compliance and program metrics for participation and service.
  • Coordinate with partners, sponsors, and donors to meet financial metrics.

Job description

Access Mammoth (formerly Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra) seeks a Program Manager to join our program staff at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area. The Program Manager is responsible for all areas of Access Mammoth mission fulfilment in adaptive recreation including all aspects of summer and winter recreation planning and implementation, program staff management, intern and volunteer recruitment and management, the organization and maintenance of all program logistics, vehicles, and equipment, and coordinating with other Access Mammoth departments, external partners, sponsors, and donors. The Program Manager reports to the Program Director with guidance from the Executive Director and supervises directly or indirectly all other members of the Program Department.

Education, Certification & Work Experience
  • College degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience in recreation management preferably in adaptive recreation
  • Minimum of three years of experience supervising staff.
  • Experience managing volunteers and interns preferred
  • Experience in high level guest service, communication and problem solving.
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Familiarity with payroll systems and labor laws
  • PSIA/AASI instructor certification Level 2 or higher or equivalent. BICP Level 1 or higher or equivalent. CPR/First Aid or Lifeguard certification.
  • Valid Driver’s license and experience driving trailers
  • Experience managing projects, making independent decisions and meeting objectives
  • Experience writing budgets and grants preferred
  • Experience working with government and business partners preferred
  • Experience working with people with disabilities and their families preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Able to sit at a desk for a significant amount of the day
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to lift and move a minimum of 60 pounds in full winter gear
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time in winter environment, often in extreme conditions
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of adaptive recreation program delivery including personnel recruitment and management, area maintenance, on hill and indoor safety compliance, technology, and guest relations, to successfully implement daily lessons, camps, and other special events
  • Oversee recruitment and retention of university and noncredit interns
  • Support trainers during daily morning clinics including facilitating a split of groups, if needed, assigning clinics to trainers, and detailing clinic topics.
  • Manage guest service and recovery
  • Demonstrate superior communication skills by speaking and acting in a clear, direct, and compassionate way with others verbally and in writing.
  • Provide insight and guidance to leadership staff regarding staff and volunteer management, and professional growth
  • Manage and report on specific program budgets, payroll, and personnel
  • Analyse data to ensure administrative and safety compliance, and to meet program specific metrics on participation and service delivery
  • Coordinate with organization partners, sponsors, and donors to ensure organization financial metrics are met
