Job summary

Northern Trust in Chicago seeks a Program Management Business Solutions, Consultant to oversee capital-funded initiatives and provide transparent reporting on investment utilization. This role serves as a key partner to business, technology, finance, and program leadership teams by providing oversight of capital-funded initiatives, analyzing development spend, validating resource allocations, and ensuring accurate tracking of project delivery investments.The successful candidate will combine strong analytical and project management capabilities to monitor budget performance, investigate variances, validate development time reporting, and provide transparent reporting on capital investment utilization. The role is highly visible and requires collaboration across technology, product, program management, and finance teams to ensure investment dollars are appropriately planned, tracked, and reported.Major DutiesCapital Budget Management & Spend AnalysisMonitor capital-funded initiatives and track performance against approved budgets and forecasts.Analyze monthly spend trends and identify forecast variances, overruns, underutilization, and potential budget risks.Assist with capital reporting and investment reviews for management.Development Time Tracking & Resource ValidationReview and validate developer time reporting and capital allocations for accuracy and completeness.Analyze development effort tracking to ensure hours are appropriately aligned to approved initiatives and funding sources.Investigate discrepancies between planned capacity, reported effort, and actual project delivery progress.Support controls and governance processes related to capitalization policies and development time reporting.Partner with delivery teams, engineering managers, agile leaders, and product teams to improve reporting accuracy and accountability.Identify trends and opportunities to improve utilization reporting and resource planning.Data Analysis & ReportingDevelop reporting and dashboards using Power BI, Excel, Azure DevOps, and related tools.Analyze development throughput, resource capacity, budget utilization, and project delivery metrics.Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for operational improvement.Support creation of executive presentations and management reporting materials.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesRequired:Strong analytical and financial acumen.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivots, lookups, forecasting, and data analysis.Power BI reporting and dashboard development experience.Experience analyzing budgets, forecasts, resource allocations, or operational metrics.Ability to synthesize large datasets into meaningful business insights.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Excellent organizational and stakeholder management capabilities.Preferred:Experience with capital planning, capital accounting, or technology investment governance.Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar delivery management tools.Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile delivery practices.Financial services, asset servicing, middle office, hedge fund administration, or technology delivery experience.Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is someone who enjoys understanding where investment dollars are being spent, validating whether reported effort aligns with actual delivery progress, and using data to improve forecasting accuracy and governance. They are comfortable working with both finance and technology teams and can translate detailed data into actionable insights for leadership.Salary Range:$74,200 - 126,200 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
