Job summary

Summitbsa in West Virginia is seeking an Assistant Director for COPE/Boulder Cove to manage climbing, bouldering and rappelling facilities and programs. The role emphasizes safety, staff leadership, and program quality.

The ideal candidate has relevant certifications, proven leadership, and the ability to coordinate training, evaluations, and emergency procedures while maintaining a strong field operations presence in a camp setting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 21+.
  • Must have or obtain BSA COPE Director Certification (training provided).
  • 1+ year of leading teams; Summit employment preferred.
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (background screening).
  • Desirable: 150 hours of climbing facility experience.

Responsibilities

  • Train and manage staff so they have knowledge to run a safe and fun program.
  • Responsible for paperwork and inventory control for operations, equipment, conditions, and facilities.
  • Maintain a training and practitioner experience portfolio.
  • Ensure climbing staff are trained in all emergency procedures.
  • Provide periodic staff evaluations and participate in disciplinary actions.
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership.
  • Abide by policies and procedures in the SBR staff handbook.
