Job summary

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is seeking a part-time Program Instructor – Swim Team Coach at the Monon Community Center. The Sea Dragons Swim Team welcomes young swimmers and emphasizes safe, progressive skill development.

You will lead two age-group practices (ages 5–15), collaborate on weekly workouts, assist during meets, and maintain a positive, professional environment. Starting rate is $15 per hour; requires CPR/AED/First Aid and being at least 16 years old.

Qualifications

• Previous competitive swimming experience preferred.
• American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire, prior to instructing the course.
• Minimum 16 years of age

Responsibilities

• Coaches swim practices for two groups of swimmers, ages 5–15.
• Collaborates with other coaches to develop weekly workouts focusing on technique, endurance, and speed.
• Attends and assists in the running of swim meets.
• Maintains effective working relationships with employees, guests, and the public.
• Enforces CCPR policy and procedures.
• Responds to inquiries and informs management as necessary.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• Reliable attendance and timeliness to scheduled shifts.
• Attends required meetings.
• Adheres to CCPR dress code standards.

POSITION TITLE: PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR – SWIM TEAM COACH DIVISION: MONON COMMUNITY CENTER REPORTS TO: AQUATICS PROGRAM SUPERVISOR FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT; Starting at $15 per hour

Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this part-time position is to lead safe and effective swim practices for the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation Sea Dragons Swim Team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Coaches swim practices for two groups of swimmers, ranging in age from 5-15.
• Collaborates with other coaches to develop weekly workouts for each age group with a focus on technique, endurance, and speed.
• Attends and assists in the running of swim meets.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees and all members of the public.
• Enforces applicable rules and regulations with program participants and facility users.
• Responds to public inquiries, suggestions, and complaints. Informs management as necessary.
• Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
• Reliable attendance and timeliness to scheduled shifts.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Must adhere to CCPR dress code standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

• Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
• Ability to teach in various depths of water for up to 4 hours.
• Ability to assess people and varying situations, and act accordingly.
• Ability to enforce Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation policy and procedures.
• Ability to implement emergency plans.
• Ability to positively promote the image of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, guests, and the public.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral and written instructions.
