Position Goal

To create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with RSD policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Excellent conflict resolution skills.

Essential Functions

• Teaching swimming techniques, strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities.
• Assisting more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities.
• Assessing the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly.
• Monitoring students to prevent accidents and injuries.
• Implementing ground rules for each swim session.
• Identifying incorrect swimming techniques and correcting students accordingly.
• Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills including communication with students, parents and facility staff.
• Ensures that all possible safety measures are observed, including proper equipment handling and surveillance of program participants.
• Attend all training sessions and any additional staff meetings.

Physical Requirements

• The Swim Instructor must be able to swim and stand for extended periods of time, and should be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
