Overview
The Program Director leads the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program and, together with the Clinical Coordinator, is responsible for integrating clinical education with didactic education.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the structure and daily operation of the program, including organization, administration, periodic review, evaluation, continued development, and overall effectiveness of the curriculum
- Maintain the effectiveness of all clinical affiliates and clinical education centers
- Coordinate, evaluate, and supervise the program's clinical component
- Act as liaison between clinical agencies and the college, keeping open lines of communication with the Clinical Coordinator
- Provide student counseling and advising as needed
- Maintain student clinical records with the Clinical Coordinator, including calculation of quarterly grades
- Maintain and encourage valid evaluation of each student by clinical instructors, department managers, staff sonographers, and students
- Evaluate student performance during clinical visits
- Review and revise performance objectives to ensure valid clinical learning experiences
- Review the Clinical Competency Manual and additional policy handbooks annually
- Track and analyze student data, including retention rates, credential pass rates, and employer/student surveys
- Ensure the program is viable and meets accreditation standards
- Maintain ARDMS and/or ARRT certification
Education
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree preferred
Credentials
- Must be credentialed and in good standing with the ARDMS (AB and OB/GYN)
Experience
- Proficiency in curriculum development, instructional methodologies, evaluation and assessment, supervision, instruction, education, and counseling
- Appropriate credential(s) specific to one or more of the credentials offered
- Equivalent of two years of full-time experience as a radiographer and/or sonographer
