  • Programming and events: Plans, coordinates, and evaluates workshops, information sessions, writing clinics, outreach events, mock interviews, and campus selection or endorsement committee meetings.
  • Resource curation and opportunity pipelines: Develops and maintains program resources and shares curated lists of internship and research opportunities.
  • Stakeholder engagement and partnerships: Builds relationships with departments, career center, and campus organizations to expand access to fellowships.
  • Communications and marketing: Manages web content, newsletters, social media, and promotional materials related to fellowships.

The National Fellowships and Awards Program Coordinator works collaboratively with Honors College leadership to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate the University's National Fellowships and Awards program. The position coordinates program initiatives that promote awareness of nationally competitive fellowships, scholarships, and graduate funding opportunities; develops and delivers outreach and educational programming; cultivates partnerships with faculty, staff, and external organizations; and coordinates institutional nomination and application processes. The position also provides guidance and resources to students and alumni participating in fellowship programs while supporting program assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Advising and Outreach: Coordinates fellowship application and institutional endorsement processes for nationally competitive fellowships, including applicant tracking, submission timelines, campus nomination workflows, and communications with applicants and review committees.
  • Student coaching and mentorship: Provides program guidance, information, and resources to students and alumni regarding nationally competitive fellowship opportunities and application processes. Assists participants by reviewing application materials, providing general feedback, and connecting them with appropriate campus resources.
  • Programming and events: Plans, coordinates, and evaluates workshops, information sessions, writing clinics, outreach events, mock interviews, and campus selection or endorsement committee meetings that promote fellowship participation across the student body.
  • Resource curation and opportunity pipelines: Develops and maintains program resources. Compile, maintain, and share curated lists of summer internships, undergraduate and graduate research opportunities, and related external programs, and connect students with these opportunities as part of their fellowship and post‑graduation planning.
  • Stakeholder engagement and partnerships: Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with academic departments, undergraduate research offices, faculty, associate deans, the career center, financial aid, and campus organizations. Cultivate relationships that build pipelines, identify promising students, and ensure broad and equitable access to fellowship opportunities.
  • Communications and marketing: Coordinates the development and maintenance of program communications with university communications teams to produce and maintain web content, newsletters, social media, and promotional materials related to fellowships and office programming, and recognize students who receive awards.
  • Professional development and national engagement: Stay current on national fellowship opportunities and participate in the profession through NAFA membership, conferences, and collaboration with peer institutions and award foundations. Invite foundation representatives to campus for information sessions and reviews.
  • Administration - Track applications and outcomes, manage student‑related data, generate reports on pipeline and program impact, serve as liaison to fellowship foundations, coordinate any stipend or reporting processes for college‑administered awards, and serve on college committees and perform other duties as assigned; which can include chaperoning domestic and international travels within the Honors College.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with honors programs, fellowship programs, and high‑achieving undergraduate and graduate populations.
  • Familiarity and fluency with an array of national award programs, including STEM‑related awards.
  • A commitment to advising practices and student engagement that promote student growth and development.
  • Experience designing and running workshops and presenting to students and stakeholders.
  • Experience in data analysis, report generation, and using technology to support advising and student success.
  • Ability and interest in learning applicant tracking systems and related application software.
  • Familiarity with graphic design software (for example, Canva), GoogleWorkspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and social media platforms.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the objectives, eligibility requirements, and nuances of individual national awards, including what makes a competitive applicant.
  • Ability to guide students through the complexities of the application process and to develop applications that read as cohesive narratives and compete at the national level.
  • Ability to articulate the value of the application process, the fit between a student and an award, and the factors that shape competitiveness.
  • Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work and manage concurrent, time‑sensitive internal and national deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with close reading, editing, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take initiative and to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with foundation directors and award managers.
  • General awareness of the academic and co‑curricular resources available at PVAMU.
Other Requirements:
  • Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of materials (up to 20 lbs.) may be required for events and outreach.
  • Some local travel between campus buildings and occasional travel to off‑campus conferences or meetings or chaperoning Honors students may be required.
