Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Department Coordinator ensures smooth day-to-day operations of the Aquatics Department, maintains a safe and exciting environment for employees and patrons, and handles emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol. The Coordinator provides support to the Aquatics Director and may step into a leadership role in their absence, including weekends and evenings. This role involves providing strong leadership to staff, enhancing member retention through effective service, and ensuring safety and compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Perform Lifeguard duties including surveillance, enforcing safety rules, and responding to emergencies.
  • Lead lifeguard staff during emergencies, ensuring proper procedures, debriefing, and documentation.
  • Report sanitation and maintenance issues; evacuate for chemical or contamination issues, communicating closures.
  • Ensure lifeguards perform their daily tasks, interact with members, and follow policies.
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, planning events, hosting certifications, and staff training.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as inputting lessons, promoting programs, and teaching lessons.
  • Coordinate scheduling of shifts and breaks with the Director, attend meetings and trainings.
Qualifications
  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens/Preventing Disease Transmission.
  • Preferred certifications: Emergency Oxygen, YSL or WSI, Lifeguard Instructor.
  • Two years of aquatic programming and youth development experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate YMCA-standard lifeguard skills; complete YMCA training upon hire.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with diverse backgrounds.
