Job summary

The City of Rockville’s ROCKIDZ Youth Mentoring Program is seeking a skilled Program Assistant to support recreation activities, academic enrichment, and mentorship for elementary-aged youth. This role helps create a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

Responsibilities include leading soccer and basketball, assisting with homework help, supervising during program hours, and helping with setup, attendance records, and documentation,

Qualifications

  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in recreation, education, mentoring, or youth development.
  • Ability to lead recreational programs (soccer, basketball, group play).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to assist in community outreach.
  • Ability to support academic enrichment activities.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate cars and vans.
  • Must pass all required background checks.
  • Preferred: CPR/First Aid certification.

Job description

The City of Rockville’s ROCKIDZ Youth Mentoring Program is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Program Assistant. This role supports recreation activities, academic enrichment, and mentorship for elementary-aged youth. This position plays a key role in providing a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

· Assist in planning and leading recreation activities, including soccer, basketball, and group games.

Minimum Qualifications:

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

· Work takes place in classrooms and outdoor activity spaces.

· Must be able to stand for extended periods and participate in physical recreation activities.

· Duties may require light lifting of equipment or supplies.
