CHARLES COUNTY GOVERNMENT is seeking a part-time Recreation support staff to assist in planning, promoting, and administering community center programs. Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing select programs, activities, and events.
  • Assist in promoting programs and activities.
  • Assist in purchasing supplies, inventory, and financial processing as assigned.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain program records, statistics, and registrations.
  • Handle cash, checks, and credit card end-of-day closeouts accurately.
  • Act as manager on duty in the absence of supervisor.

Job Summary

Performs work related to assisting in programs and activity planning, implementation, promotion, and related administrative support for assigned section within Recreation Division.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing select programs, activities, and special events.
  • Assists in promoting programs and activities.
  • Assists in the purchasing of supplies, inventory, and financial processing as assigned.
  • Assists in recruiting, training, and supervising assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Assists in maintaining program records, program statistics, and entering program registrations.
  • Provide accurate cash handling, accounting, and end-of-day closeouts of cash, checks, and credit card transactions.
  • Serves as manager on duty in the absence of supervisor.
Other Duties

Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are the pre-employment KSAs that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Knowledge of--

  • Program planning and implementation, and administrative support procedures applicable to community center programs.
  • PC operations.

Ability to--

  • Perform program planning and implementation, and administrative support work effectively.
  • Prepare and maintain records and related reports.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others encountered in the workplace.
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One year of recreation experience in planning community activities.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Community Centers, Sports, Elite - None
  • Aquatics – American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED and First Aid, Charles County Department of Health Swimming Pool Operator, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred

Physical Demands:

The work is mostly sedentary with periods of walking and standing. Typical positions require workers to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs; bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing.

Assigned staff (Attendants, Leaders, Instructors/Officials I-III, Private Instructors, Lifeguards)

Additional Information:

Work hours and location may vary and are contingent upon adequate participant registration and attendance. The Department reserves the right to transfer or terminate staff when necessary. Part time employees may not exceed 1,250 hour annually.
