Job summary

CHARLES COUNTY GOVERNMENT is seeking a part-time staff member to support recreation programs, sports, activities, or camps in the county facilities. The role involves assisting in planning, implementing, and supervising activities, providing leadership to participants, and ensuring a positive environment with strong customer service.

Candidates should be able to follow directions, communicate effectively, and maintain records.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the operations of a recreation program, sport, activity, or camp.
• Ability to follow directions of the supervisor.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and program participants.
• Follow established program policies and procedures.

• Assist supervisor in planning, implementing and supervising an assigned program, sport, activity, or camp.
• Provide leadership and facilitation to participants.

• Supervise assigned participants.
• Assist in record keeping, attendance, sign-in/sign-out sheets, and other reports.

Performs a variety of duties as assigned related to the operation of programs, sports, activities, or camps.

Essential Job Functions

• Assists supervisor in overall planning, implementation and supervision of an assigned program, sport, activity, or camp.
• Provide leadership and facilitation to participants.
• Promote positive environment and positive recreation atmosphere with excellent customer service.
• Responsible for supervision of assigned participants.
• Assist in record keeping, keeping score, daily attendance, sign in/sign out sheets, and other paperwork and reports.

Other Duties

Performs other related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSAs that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Knowledge of--

• The operations of a recreation program, sport, activity, or camp.

Ability to--

• Follow directions of the supervisor.

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and others encountered in the workplace, and program participants.

• Follow established program policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year-for-year basis.)

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 16 years of age (18 years of age for Camp)

Physical Demands:

The work is sometimes sedentary with frequent periods of light physical activity.Typical position requires worker to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects.The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing.Worker may be required to demonstrate an athletic activity or physical exercise.

Additional Information:

Work hours and location may vary and are contingent upon adequate participant registration and attendance.The Department reserves the right to transfer or terminate staff when necessary.Part time employees may not exceed 1,250 hour annually.
