Professor, Marine Transportation (Assistant/Associate)

Job Overview

This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Excepted Service, initially not exceeding two years, with potential for reappointment and eventual tenure after four to six years, contingent on performance.

Pay Range

Base pay ranges from $84,896.00 to $146,699.00 annually. Actual compensation depends on experience and skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver courses in Nautical Science and related fields.
  • Mentor Midshipmen academically.
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional service activities.
Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates are highly motivated professionals with a Master’s Degree or higher, teaching experience at an accredited institution, and relevant industry experience.

Minimum Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship and eligibility for employment.
  • Current U.S. Coast Guard License for service on U.S. Flag Commercial Ships (Chief Mate, Unlimited Tonnage or higher).
  • Valid STCW certification, FCC GMDSS endorsement, and optional Tankerman (PIC) endorsement.
Qualifications

For Assistant Professor: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation or related field plus one year of college teaching experience or equivalent industry experience.

For Associate Professor: Master’s degree in Marine Transportation or related field plus five years of college teaching experience or equivalent industry experience.

Desired Skills
  • Sailing experience as Master, Unlimited Tonnage.
  • Certifications such as Tankerman, LNG, or Chemical Tanker experience.
  • Experience with USCG licenses, maritime simulation, or shore-side management.
