Job summary

YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metro Area in Vineland, NJ is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to teach swim classes, enforce safety rules, and provide a welcoming, member-focused experience.

You will maintain up-to-date lifeguard, CPR/AED/First Aid, and YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certifications within 60 days, prepare lesson materials, track attendance, and collaborate with the Aquatic Manager. This role supports the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be at least 16 years old.
• Must obtain lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid within 60 days of employment.
• Ability to work with staff, guests, members and other stakeholders while providing a welcoming atmosphere.
• Understanding OSHA safety in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Present a professional image and enforce pool rules.
• Supervise students and ensure safety; monitor locations and react to emergencies.
• Respond to emergencies and report unsafe conditions to Aquatic Manager.
• Arrive 5–10 minutes before shift; set up and clean equipment; clock in/out as required.
• Schedule coverage, post shifts, and arrange substitutes when needed.
• Maintain up-to-date certifications and attend required trainings.
• Maintain accurate records and progress trackers for classes.
