Job summary

Red Bank YMCA is seeking a Swim Instructor to support youth development by teaching swimming, ensuring safe pool conditions, and promoting member safety in line with YMCA policies. You will foster positive student-parent relationships and encourage involvement in YMCA activities.

You will maintain records, attend trainings, and adhere to safety procedures, reporting incidents when necessary. The role requires delivering well-planned lessons and managing equipment while upholding child protection

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 required
• CPR, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen certifications due within 3 months
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent within 6 months
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans
• Build authentic relationships with students and parents and encourage YMCA involvement
• Maintain attendance and progress records and attend meetings as scheduled
• Follow YMCA policies, including safety and incident reporting
• Organize and care for class equipment and report any damage
• Adhere to youth boundaries and complete abuse risk management training

Job description

This position is for the Red Bank YMCA. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the pool deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, report cards, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damage equipment.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications: Professional rescuer CPR, AED, Basic Frist Aid, and Emergency Oxygen within 3 months.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent within 6 months.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
