Job summary

Freehold Family YMCA is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to lead youth swimming lessons and promote a safe, engaging environment at the Freehold facility. You will plan lessons, maintain records, and work with families to foster community involvement and safety awareness.

The role requires 16+ years old, CPR/AED/First Aid/ Oxygen within 3 months, and YMCA Swim Instructor certification within 6 months. You will follow YMCA policies and contribute to staff trainings and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• CPR, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications within 3 months.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent within 6 months.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages parent involvement and volunteers.
• Maintains attendance, progress reports, and other required records.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled; follows YMCA policies and procedures.
• Completes incident/accident reports as necessary; reports damaged equipment.
• Organizes and puts away class equipment and reports any issues.
• Adheres to boundaries with youth; completes required abuse risk management training and reporting procedures.

Job description

This position is for the Freehold Family YMCA. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the pool deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, report cards, etc.)
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damage equipment.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

• Minimum age of 16.
• Certifications: Professional rescuer CPR, AED, Basic Frist Aid, and Emergency Oxygen within 3 months.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent within 6 months.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
