Job description

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), the nurse implements, supervises, and evaluates patient care using the nursing process, in accordance with hospital and departmental policies. The role involves care from admission to discharge, considering the aging process, developmental stages, and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provides direct patient care.
  2. Provides leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities with ancillary personnel.
  3. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  4. Collaborates with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding care outcomes and discharge planning.
  5. Assesses patient and family needs to provide appropriate teaching.
  6. Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
  7. Utilizes available resources to deliver quality, cost-effective patient care.
  8. Maintains clinical competencies through credentialing standards, safety education, and certifications such as BLS, ACLS, or PALS as appropriate.
  9. Identifies professional growth needs and participates in educational opportunities and organizations.
  10. Serves as a role model and preceptor for new graduate nurses and less experienced staff.
  11. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
Other Information:

Must hold licensure as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Basic Knowledge:
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Current RN licensure in Rhode Island required.
  • Knowledge of providing care across the lifespan, considering aging, development, and cultural patterns.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
  • Visual and auditory ability to monitor patient status.
  • Physical ability to assist with patient lifting and positioning.
  • Exposure to patient care environment.
  • Ability to walk, stand, lift, and position patients as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.
