Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), implements, supervises, and evaluates the nursing care of each patient using a nursing process and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for patient care from admission to discharge, considering the aging process throughout the lifespan, including all developmental stages and cultural patterns.

Responsibilities

1. Provides direct patient care.
2. Provides leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
3. Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies opportunities for improvement.
4. Collaborates with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding patient care outcomes and discharge planning.
5. Assesses and provides appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs.
6. Participates in unit-based quality improvement and research activities.
7. Utilizes all available resources to provide quality, cost-effective patient care.
8. Meets and maintains clinical competencies as per credentialing standards, including mandatory safety education and completion of BLS and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
9. Identifies growth needs and participates in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
10. Serves as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.
11. Assumes charge nurse responsibilities for the patient care unit as delegated.

Other Information

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Rhode Island or in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Basic Knowledge

Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred. Must have current RN licensure in Rhode Island. Demonstrates knowledge to care for patients across the lifespan, considering aging, development, and cultural patterns.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
• Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients.
• Exposed to patient care environment.
• Physical capacity for extensive walking, standing, lifting, and pushing patients on stretchers.

No supervisory responsibilities.
