Job summary

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) seeks a Professional Engineer (Water Resources) to oversee water resources projects, coordinate raw water pumping, monitor lake levels and maintain water accounting plans, and manage assigned studies in the Water System.

The role requires a BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Texas PE license, and experience reading technical documents; familiarity with scheduling, modeling software, GIS, and AutoCAD is preferred; a Texas driver's license is

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in the State of Texas.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical documents.
  • Familiarity with scheduling, modeling software, GIS and/or design software such as AutoCAD preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as liaison between Water Resources and multiple internal departments.
  • Participates in Engineering design meetings and project progress meetings.
  • Reviews studies and designs for completeness and quality control.
  • Generates regulated and operational reports (e.g., water accounting, Water Consumption Reports).
  • Serves as project manager for assigned projects and studies in the Water System.

Position Summary

The Professional Engineer (Water Resources)assistsin all matterspertaining towater resources, includingcoordinating raw water pumping operations, monitoringlakeand river levels,andmaintainingwater accounting plans. Acts as a project manager for assigned projectsand studiesin the Water System.Responsible for quality control review ofWaterSystem projects managed by theEngineering department. Generatesandmaintainsassigned operational and regulatory reportsand supportsregulatory permitting activities.Investigateschallenges and offerssolutions tooptimizeoperation of theWaterSystem.

Job Responsibilities
  • Acts as liaison between Water Resources and multiple internal departmentsincludingWater and Wastewater Operations, Engineering&Permitting, Environmental, Controls (SCADA), Information Technology, Procurement and Finance.
  • Participatesin Engineering design meetings, studies and construction progress meetingsmanaged by theEngineering departmentas needed.
  • Reviews studies, designs plans prepared by others for completeness and accuracy as a quality control function.
  • Generatesassigned operational and regulatory reportssuch asraw water accounting plans, WaterConsumption ReportsandTCEQ Surface WaterReports.
  • Assistswith administration and management of water supplypermits and contracts.
  • Assistswiththecoordination andimplementation ofoperational procedures related to the Raw Water Operations Plan andthe Water Resource and Emergency Management Plan.
  • Assistswith regulatory permitting activities for existing and new water supplies.
  • Servesas project manager for assigned projectsand studiesin theWaterSystem.
  • Collects,analyzesandmaintainsWater Systemdata and otherinformation for distribution toNTMWD staffand outside entities.
  • Assistsin preparation of the Water System’s annual budgets.
  • Participatesin the developmentand implementationof strategicWater Systeminitiatives.
  • Servesas a liaison with the public, Member and Customer Cities, prospective water customers, andregulatoryregionalpartners as requested.
  • Presentsinformation on Water System activities to variousinternal and externalgroups as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering orotherrelated field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in the State of Texas.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical documents.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with scheduling, modeling software,GISand/or design software platforms such asAutocadpreferred.
  • Requires a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Understanding of water principles and processes.
  • Proficiencyin use of Microsoft Office Suite of products including Word,ExcelandPowerpoint.
  • Ability tomaintainpositive and productiverelationships andcommunicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Action oriented,supportiveand positive attitude, who motivates and listens to others, is flexible, and adapts to the needs of the team tomaintaineffective working relationships with others to solve problems.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

Moderate physical labor and considerable mental attentionrequiredwith some eyestrain. Generallyworkingindoorswith someoutdoorvisits towork-siteswith varying environmental conditions. Considerable time can be spent viewing a computer screen, designplans, specifications reports, contracts, permits, data,and correspondence.Time will be spent at construction sites, traversing rough terrain, climbing stairs and ladders to access structures. Equipment used includes calculators,computersand some field survey equipment.
