Job summary

Orion Steel Group, L.L.C. is seeking a production associate to support our recycling and steel manufacturing operations. The role involves physical tasks, operating conveyors, assisting mechanics, and maintaining a clean work area while aiming to meet monthly production goals.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, be able to lift up to 40 lbs, and be mechanically inclined with a strong work ethic and good English communication. Weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of High School or equivalent.
  • Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move around.
  • Mechanically inclined and able to learn.
  • Self-motivated with initiative and proactive attitude.
  • Strong English written and spoken.
  • Recycling or mining experience is asset.

Responsibilities

  • Picks copper and fluff off moving conveyor, cleans around mill, and assists shredder mechanics in changing out conveyors, bearing shafts, and greasing.
  • Keeps the work area clean and ready for daily operations.
  • Ensures conveyor bearings are clean and properly greased.
  • Sorts only copper to ensure quality material is shipped to customers.
  • Reports any issues immediately as they arise.
  • Assists shredder mechanics during projects.
  • Assists in meeting monthly production goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures before working on any plant equipment.
  • Cross-trains in other departments to provide coverage during short staffing or call-ins.
  • Occasional additional hours, including weekends, may be required depending on operational needs.

  • Ensures conveyor bearings are clean and properly greased

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Completion of High School and/or equivalent

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, as well as regular walking, squatting, and climbing
  • Ability to learn and follow directions
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Self-Motivated: Takes initiative and acts proactively without being prompted
  • Strong Work Ethic: Uses time efficiently, works safely, and ensures those around them are working safely
  • Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken
  • Recycling or mining experience is considered an asset.

Occasional additional hours, including weekends, may be required depending on operational needs.

Compensation

Compensation: $23/hr
