Job summary

Actalent is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of production tooling for a Lighting Sources platform. The role involves designing, validating, and implementing tooling solutions for efficient production operations, focusing on mechanical assembly tooling and electro-mechanical test fixtures in a factory setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a related technical field.
• 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with Creo or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience with sheet metal and injection-molded plastics.
• Knowledge of GD&T.
• Ability to take designs from concept through production.
• Experience creating engineering drawings and performing tolerance analysis.
• Travel up to 12% to Austin, TX and Chihuahua, Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production tooling from concept through production implementation.
• Create mechanical assembly tooling and test fixtures.
• Develop 3D CAD models and drawings.
• Perform material selection, tolerance analysis, and design reviews.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing engineers.
• Build prototypes and test setups.
• Support tooling deployment in manufacturing facilities.
• Apply plastics, fasteners, adhesives, sheet metal, and mechanical assembly design knowledge.
• Use Creo and Windchill to manage design files.
• Travel to manufacturing sites for tooling deployment and validation.
