Position Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic (Production Tech) will manage, maintain, and repair automated production machines that produce aluminum cans. The role involves working closely with the team coordinator and team leader to ensure continuous, high‑quality production.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and observe operation of machines and equipment to ensure production of high‑quality cans.
  • Inspect cans according to customer specifications and make necessary adjustments.
  • Replenish inks, oils, chemicals, fluids, or other supplies as required; clear jammed or mis‑shipped cans; stop machines as needed and perform adjustments or repairs.
  • Operate forklift for material handling, including loading/unloading trucks or rail cars, warehousing, and staging.
  • Diagnose or troubleshoot machine malfunctions to determine adjustment or repair needs.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance, including replacing defective parts, installing special functional parts, lubricating, cleaning, and operating all types of machinery and machine tools.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, machine parts, or specifications to determine stock dimensions.
  • Operate manual machine shop equipment within close tolerances.
  • Repair electronic or electrical equipment, including general maintenance, repair, installation, overhauling, calibrating, and servicing.
  • Maintain required paperwork for assigned area or machine, including Statistical Process Control charts, logbook entries, and maintenance checklists; initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the team or management.
Job Requirements – Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Available to work varied shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime to cover absences or provide support.
  • Experienced in maintenance and repair of production machines and equipment.
  • Highly skilled in troubleshooting and repairing machine malfunctions.
  • Significant experience operating production machines.
  • Related work experience or technical training/school or technical degrees may substitute required experience.
Preferred Requirements
  • Three (3) plus years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing environment.
Competencies
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to team members or customers.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team environment using collaborative methods.
  • Commitment: Must be committed to ongoing personal training and development.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift up to 10 lb, frequently lift up to 25 lb, occasionally lift up to 75 lb.
  • Vision: Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
  • High‑speed automated machines in a 24/7 aluminum can manufacturing plant.
  • Shifts: rotating four (4) days on, four (4) days off; 12‑hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; day‑to‑night rotation every two cycles.
  • Environment: hot and cold seasonal variations; high noise levels; exposure to vibrating equipment, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; possible electrical shock risk.
  • Frequent use of moving mechanical parts; needed to work at various plant locations; willingness to work all areas of production and any shift.
