Position Overview

The Maintenance Mechanic (Production Technician) manages, maintains, and repairs automated production machines or equipment that build aluminum cans. The role works closely with a team coordinator and team leader.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and observe operation of machines and equipment to ensure high‑quality can production.
  • Inspect cans according to customer specifications and adjust as needed.
  • Replenish inks, oils, chemicals, fluids, or other supplies required by each machine.
  • Operate forklift for materials handling; may load/unload trucks or rail cars, warehouse, and stage materials.
  • Ensure mechanical performance of line and standard production output.
  • Diagnose or troubleshoot machines to determine malfunctions and needed repairs.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance, including parts replacement and installation of special functional and structural components.
  • Lubricate, clean, and operate all types of machinery, equipment, and machine tools, including dismantling, fitting, or assembly work as required.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine required stock.
  • Operate manual machine‑shop equipment with close tolerances.
  • Repair electronic or electrical equipment through general maintenance, repair, and installation work.
  • Install, repair, construct, adjust, overhaul, calibrate, and service all types of electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Handle required paperwork, including SPC charts, logbook entries, maintenance checklists, bills of lading, inventory sheets, and warehouse tags; initiate purchase orders for parts.
  • Complete other duties assigned by team or management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of production machines and equipment.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting and repairing machine malfunctions.
  • Significant experience operating production machines.
  • Related work experience or technical training may substitute for required experience.
Preferred Requirements
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing environment.
Competencies
  • Language: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports; speak effectively to teams or customers.
  • Mathematical: Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning: Solve practical problems with limited standardization; interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Collaboration: Effectively work as an individual and within a team, using collaborative methods.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal training and development.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, use hands to handle tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms regularly.
  • Climb or balance, talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.
  • Regularly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and adjust focus as required.
Working Conditions
  • Work with high‑speed automated machines and equipment in a plant producing aluminum cans.
  • Plant operates 24/7 throughout the year.
  • Constant pressure to maintain high quality and continuous line operation.
  • Shifts rotate four days on, four days off, 12‑hour shifts from 7:00 to 7:00.
  • Environmental conditions vary with weather; work may include exposure to wet, humid, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, vibration, and electrical shock risk.
  • High noise level in the work environment.
  • Employees may be required in various production areas and during all shifts.
Possible Equivalent Military Titles
  • Maintenance Mechanic or Technician; Automotive Mechanic; Diesel Engine Mechanic; Generator Specialist or Technician; Helicopter or Plane Mechanic.
