Job Description

Position: Maintenance Mechanic (Production Technician)

Location: Sugar Land, Texas

The Maintenance Mechanic (Production Technician) works closely with a full team, including a Team Coordinator and Team Leader, managing, maintaining, and repairing automated production machines or equipment used in the manufacturing of aluminum cans. The role involves ensuring high‑quality production, troubleshooting reduces downtime, and maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment.

Division Overview

Crown’s Beverage Division manufactures a variety of packaging solutions for soft drinks, craft beers, coffees, teas, and new energy drinks. The division leads the industry in innovative technologies that redefine the appearance of beverage cans.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and observe machine operations to ensure the production of high‑quality cans.
  • Inspect cans according to customer specifications and adjust as necessary.
  • Replenish inks, oils, chemicals, fluids, and other supplies; stop and adjust machines when jams or malfunctions occur.
  • Operate forklift for material handling, including loading/unloading trucks or rail cars, warehousing, and staging.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot machines to determine malfunctions and perform necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance for production, including replacing defective parts, installing functional and structural components.
  • Lubricate, clean, and operate all types of machinery and equipment; perform dismantling, fitting, and assembly tasks for plant maintenance.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine required stock.
  • Operate manual machine shop equipment with tight tolerances.
  • Repair electronic or electrical equipment, perform general electronic and electrical maintenance, repair, and installation work.
  • Install, repair, construct, adjust, overhaul, calibrate, and service electronic and electrical equipment.
  • Maintain required paperwork, including statistical process control charts, logbook entries, maintenance checklists, bills of lading, inventory sheets, and warehouse tags; initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the team or management.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of production machines and equipment.
  • Highly skilled in troubleshooting and repairing machine malfunctions.
  • Significant experience operating production machines.
  • Related work experience, technical training, or technical degrees may be substituted for required work experience.
Preferred Requirements
  • Three (3) plus years of experience as a maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing environment.
Competency
  • Language: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups or customers.
  • Mathematics: Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as an individual and in a team environment using collaborative methods.
  • Commitment: Must be committed to ongoing personal training and development.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular standing, walking, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, talking, or hearing.
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Regular lifting of up to 10 pounds; frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting or moving of up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
  • High‑speed automated machines and equipment in the production of aluminum cans.
  • Plant operates 24/7 year‑round.
  • Constant pressure to produce high quality cans and keep the production line operating.
  • Rotating shifts (four on, four off) starting at 7:00 and ending at 7:00 (12 hours).
  • Temperature variations: hot when the weather is hot; cold when the weather is cold.
  • Assignments may involve different areas of the plant throughout career.
  • Willingness to work in all areas of production and any shift.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Work in high, precarious places; exposure to wet/humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
  • Loud noise levels.
