Job Summary
Reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for directing the activities of shift production personnel in a safe and efficient manner to achieve the desired quality and quantity of work. Ensures compliance with all safety, food safety, quality, production, and company standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all employees are aware, trained, and adhere to safe work practices, holding associates accountable to the PPE policy.
- Promptly report any first-aid incidents, injuries, spills, etc.
- Lead pre-shift meetings at 6:50 a.m. or p.m.
- Disseminate relevant information to all employees using daily messages, Toolbox meetings, and other communication methods.
- Direct all shift personnel to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery objectives.
- Hold employees accountable to safety, food safety, quality, and production standards.
- Participate in creating and implementing continuous improvement plans and activities.
- Maintain shift adherence to 5S, housekeeping, and policies.
- Ensure completion of quality testing and setup procedures, including First Piece Inspections and Daily Walk-Through forms.
- Complete Quality Hold documentation accurately and submit copies to relevant personnel.
- Report maintenance and safety issues promptly and generate work orders.
- Participate in hiring, discipline, and termination decisions for shift personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and reviews.
- Train and cross-train personnel, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintain Food Safety Good Manufacturing Practices and Quality System processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or minimum of 5 years manufacturing experience, preferably in extrusion/converting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Experience with food safety standards.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures and safe work practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of addressing large groups effectively.
- Leadership skills to coach and motivate teams.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to meet goals and drive continuous improvement.
- Moderate to strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook, to generate reports and analyze data.
