Scope:
General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles.
Successful candidates will demonstrate ability through the utilization of competitive and innovative work practices. The primary objective of a Production Supervisor is to take ownership in coordinating efforts with a production team employees to become highly performing and self-directed utilizing business-based decision making methods.
* Direct and oversee the day-to-day activities of a team of CNC machinists and production employees.
* Extensive familiarity with the machined parts and internal processes as well as a keen understanding of how they work together.
* Supervise and instruct employees in the proper use of production equipment.
* Examine production schedules and determine how to best utilize employees while following collective bargaining unit guidelines and safety regulations.
* Handle first step grievances in assigned areas.
* Ensure that work is completed according to schedules while also troubleshooting and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency.
* Ensure safe practices while preventing delays in production.
* Instruct and enforce safety and good housekeeping practices in the production process.
* Responsible for evaluations coaching, counseling, resource planning and team building.
* Able to assist in problem solving and root cause analysis.
* Work with quality department to help resolve manufacturing defects.
* Review and maintain accurate time charging.
* Continuously incorporate Lean Principles into everyday tasks.
* Provide opportunities for individual improvement.
* Plan, control and approve vacations, qualifications, schedules, and approve vacations.
* Present reports as needed to management.
* Facilitate and participate in regularly scheduled meetings.
* Ability and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Background Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Production/Business Management, Business Leadership, Fabrication/Machining or other related manufacturing field of study, preferred.
Preferred 2 years of supervision and 2-5 years CNC programming and/or set up experience preferred.
Must be a U.S. Person.
Must be proficient with computers and software including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
Experience leading a unionized workforce is preferred.
Work Environment:
This job is performed in an office and heavy manufacturing environment.
