Reports to Title: Production Operations Manager

Department: Production

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

Supervises hourly employees in a manufacturing environment plan and assigns work and implements policies and procedures. Improve working conditions (safety, quality, productivity, and cost) and increase subordinates’ skills and capabilities. Assist Shift Superintendent in improving production, standard operating procedure, safety, quality control, employee relations, and performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily walks and visual inspections of the Production floor in observation of unsafe acts or conditions; takes immediate corrective action where necessary.
  • Maintains safety/environmental self-audits & visual checks, champions all safety or ergonomic activities for the department and helps to develop and meet plant safety goals.
  • Maintain desired product quality and safety. Ensure all staff and employees know and understand the Food Safety plan and the Food Quality plan.
  • Trains employees to ensure safe operating procedures are followed, including lock-out and tag-out.
  • Adheres to product specification requirements throughout the manufacturing process to maintain the desired product quality results.
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of products and equipment to ensure the ability to direct employees to perform the job properly.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in accordance with HACCP and USDA regulations; taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Walks the production floor daily and holds monthly line meetings to address questions and concerns.
  • Maintain or exceed goals on yields and efficiencies.
  • Works with the Operations Managers and/or Superintendents/Supervisors to maintain knowledge of yields and variances, methods of calculations, typical problem areas and methods for corrections and improvement.
  • Suggests changes in workflow processes and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the department and/or production crew to maintain the lowest level of downtime and product costs possible.
  • Traces and analyzes key product result measures for improvement opportunities.
  • Observes safety and security procedures such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Material Safety Data (MSD) sheets, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), LOTO as trained and certified, Emergency Evacuations, and Building Security; Reports potentially unsafe conditions and injuries: near miss/incidents/accidents timely; Uses and cares for company equipment and materials properly.

Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, Food Science or appropriate fields that include business management, agribusiness, and science.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in supervision/management.
  • Preferred candidates should have food industry experience.

  • Oral communication—the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills, and conducts meetings.

  • Leadership—the individual inspires and motivates others to perform well, accepts feedback from others.
  • Management skills—the individual includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; makes self-available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; and develops subordinates’ skills and encourages growth.
  • Quality management—the individual looks for ways to improve and promote quality and demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Judgment—the individual displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisions.
  • Planning/organizing—the individual prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently and develops realistic action plans.
  • Safety and security—the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures and uses equipment and materials properly.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a manufacturing (80%) and office (20%) environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, stoop, kneel, couch, or crawl, talk or hear as defined below.

  • Standard of 8 hours shifts and longer as the company requires
  • Standing and/or walking throughout the shift
  • Lifting /Carrying a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Use both hands, as necessary
