Job summary

Sterling Engineering is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead a large second-shift manufacturing team focused on fabricating and assembling custom electrical enclosures, cabinets, and E-Houses for data center and utility markets.

You will oversee 20+ assemblers, coordinate mechanical fabrication and basic electrical assembly, and drive safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery in a hands-on environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years leading a manufacturing or fabrication team.
• Experience supervising 20+ employees is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes and sheet metal.
• Hands-on with mechanical assembly tools and basic electrical tasks.
• Ability to read basic drawings and bills of materials.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead a large second-shift manufacturing team supporting the fabrication and assembly of custom electrical enclosures, cabinets, and E-Houses serving the data center and utility industries.

This is a hands-on leadership position overseeing 20+ production assemblers and coordinating mechanical fabrication, assembly, and basic electrical assembly activities. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for daily production performance, employee leadership, safety, quality, productivity, and delivery.

The ideal candidate has experience leading large manufacturing or fabrication teams and is comfortable working in a hands-on environment involving sheet metal, hand and power tools, mechanical assembly, and basic electrical panel wiring.

Schedule

• 1st Shift: 5:45 AM - 2:30 PM; Monday - Friday
• 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM; Monday – Thursday, 4 days per week

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily production activities for assigned fabrication and assembly teams to meet safety, quality, productivity, cost, and delivery goals.
• Supervise and provide direction to large teams of 20+ production employees.
• Coordinate mechanical fabrication and assembly activities for custom electrical enclosures, cabinets, E-Houses, and related equipment.
• Oversee mechanical assembly involving sheet metal, doors, panels, cabinets, hardware, fasteners, hand tools, and power tools.
• Coordinate with electrical assembly teams performing basic panel wiring, component installation, and electrical assembly.
• Assign employees to workstations and projects based on production priorities, skills, and workload.
• Monitor production output, labor utilization, quality, and schedule performance.
• Prioritize production activities based on materials, equipment availability, customer requirements, and production schedules.
• Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and workflow.
• Troubleshoot production issues and work with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Materials, and other departments to resolve problems.
• Ensure employees have the proper materials, tools, equipment, drawings, and work instructions required to complete their work.
• Coach, train, mentor, and develop production employees to improve performance and technical capabilities.
• Provide ongoing feedback and accountability regarding employee performance, attendance, safety, quality, and productivity.
• Ensure production activities comply with established safety procedures, quality standards, and work instructions.
• Promote a clean, organized, and safe manufacturing environment.
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on production efficiency, quality, workflow, and cost.
• Track and communicate production performance, issues, and priorities to operations leadership.
• Adapt production plans and resources to changing priorities within a custom, project-based manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in production, fabrication, manufacturing, or assembly.
• Experience supervising, leading, or coordinating production employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience leading larger teams; experience with 20+ employees is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication and processes such as laser cutting, press brakes, bending, forming, or welding.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, hand tools, and power tools.
• Familiarity with basic electrical assembly, panel wiring, electrical components, or similar work.
• Ability to read and understand basic mechanical drawings, work instructions, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Materials, and Operations teams.
• Comfortable working directly with employees on the manufacturing floor.
• Ability to work the required second-shift schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience manufacturing custom electrical enclosures, cabinets, E-Houses, switchgear, or related industrial equipment.
• Experience supporting products for data center, utility, electrical infrastructure, or other industrial markets.
• Experience supervising both mechanical and electrical assembly personnel.
• Experience in a high-mix, custom, or engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.
• Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
• Experience using production metrics and data to improve team performance and manufacturing output.
