Responsibilities
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the resources of the shift to ensure all goals are achieved, including but not limited to safety, quality, production, and cost.
- Oversees training, evaluation, and performance reviews of shift personnel.
- Performs administrative duties including maintaining employee attendance records, initiating personnel action forms, writing counseling forms, vacation requests, and other reports as needed.
- Leads risk assessment activities in their area by driving corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health, or safety risks.
- Ensures the safety of all employees through active engagement in safety activities and clear communication of safe work expectations.
- Maintains the shift safety program to minimize accidents and injuries.
- Requires knowledge of blown film, troubleshooting, extruder drives, heaters, and controls (preferably manufacturing experience).
- Monitors quality and production, making decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality efficiently.
- Coordinates with Maintenance for scheduled shutdowns and repairs to minimize operational losses.
- Inspects lines, checks product specifications, and takes corrective action as needed.
- Closes out production work orders and records daily production, forecasting future equipment needs.
- Reads work orders and checks production reports.
- Communicates verbally with shift employees, management, and maintenance.
- Leads safety meetings (pre-shift, department, change management, town hall, etc.).
- Promotes a safe and productive team environment.
- Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implements corrective actions.
- Ensures proper training and development of employees.
- Sets and achieves organizational goals, ensuring team understanding and engagement.
- Motivates and coaches employees, providing performance feedback and additional training as needed.
- Ensures efficient use of materials, improves methods, and eliminates waste.
- Communicates across shifts and departments to anticipate production concerns.
- Records daily production and submits reports.
- Maintains good employee relations and performance reviews.
- Provides training (toolbox talks, safety, etc.).
- Keeps accurate records of training, production, and activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assigns work and provides technical assistance to meet production and inventory requirements.
- Reviews and analyzes production data daily.
- Leads teams, committees, and special projects as required.
- Reports downtime, efficiency, and scrap daily.
- Minimizes scrap and maximizes efficiency per shift.
- Prepares for and monitors product changeovers and verifies line clearances.
- Supports packers at breaks/lunches.
- Ensures completion of preventive maintenance.
- Identifies and reacts to sounds and alarms.
- Provides timely feedback on performance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4-year college degree in manufacturing or engineering is a plus, or equivalent supervisory experience.
- At least 5 years of extrusion and conversion experience with above-average to expert skills.
- Effective influencing skills to meet goals.
- Ability to manage complex and emotional situations involving employees.
- Self-starter with initiative, following policies and procedures.
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Adherence to safety, health, and environmental standards.
- This is a second shift position (3 PM - 1 PM) in Victoria, Texas.
- Physical ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
- Wears PPE including glasses, goggles, hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, face shield, and gloves.
- Operates forklift and pallet jack, with a valid license.
