Responsibilities
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the resources of the shift to ensure all goals are achieved, including but not limited to safety, quality, production, and cost.
- Oversees training, evaluation, and performance reviews of shift personnel.
- Performs administrative duties as required including maintaining employee attendance records, initiating personnel action forms, writing counseling forms, vacation requests, and any other reports as needed.
- Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventive actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health, or safety risks.
- Accountable for the safety of all employees for whom they are responsible through active engagement in safety activities and provides clear, consistent communication of safe work expectations.
- Helps to maintain the shift safety program to minimize accidents and injuries and to ensure a safe working environment.
- Must know blown film, troubleshooting, extruder drives, heaters, and controls. (preferably but can be related manufacturing experience)
- Constantly follows quality and production and makes the necessary decisions to maintain maximum rates with high quality in an efficient time and manner.
- Coordinates with Maintenance for scheduled shutdowns and repairs to achieve the necessary maintenance work with minimal operational losses.
- Inspects each line and checks the product is being run according to the specifications of the job; takes corrective action to resolve problems.
- Closes out production work orders and records production on a daily report. Forecast equipment for future orders.
- Reads work orders and checks production reports on the lines.
- Verbally communicates with all Shift employees, Production Manager, Management Staff, and Maintenance.
- Leads all required meetings with safety (e.g., pre-shift, department, change management, general communication, town hall, etc.)
- Promotes a safe and productive team work environment.
- Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
- Ensures the proper training and development of all assigned employees for whom they are responsible.
- Sets goals for their organizational unit; achieves goals and ensures that all employees understand and work toward achieving goals.
- Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.
- Ensures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department.
- Communicates between shifts and departments to anticipate and prepare for any possible production concerns.
- Accurately records daily production in the computer and submits various reports to the Production Manager.
- Maintains good employee relations by stimulating maximum efficiency and productivity of employees through good communication and regular performance reviews.
- Provides training as appropriate (e.g., toolbox meetings, safety, etc.).
- Keeps accurate records including training, production, and other related activities.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assigns work and provides technical assistance to meet production schedule and inventory requirements.
- Performs daily reviews/analysis to determine status against production goals.
- Ability to lead teams and committees and special projects as required.
- Reports daily downtime, efficiency, and production scrap.
- Minimizes scrap and maximizes efficiency on each shift.
- Prepares for and monitors product changeovers, verifies line clearances.
- Supports packers at breaks/lunches by packing bottles.
- Ensures completion of daily and weekly preventive maintenance on shift.
- Responsible for reacting to various sounds and alarms.
- Provides appropriate and timely feedback on performance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- 4-year college degree in manufacturing or engineering is a plus or equivalent supervisory experience.
- Above average to expert level extrusion and conversion skills with a minimum of 5 years experience.
- Ability to influence people effectively and efficiently to meet production and organization goals.
- Ability to manage complex, difficult, and emotional situations involving employees.
- Self-starter that uses initiative within established policies and procedural guidelines.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively manage rapidly changing priorities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Adherence to Amcor’s Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.
- This is a second shift, 3 PM - 1 PM position, in Victoria, Texas.
- Physical ability to stand, sit, kneel, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and crawl for extended periods multiple times per day.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to work in warm, humid, and cool climates.
- Willingness to wear PPE including safety glasses, goggles, hearing protection, steel toe shoes/boots, face shield, and gloves.
- Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack; maintain a forklift operator license.
