Job summary

Carter Lumber is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead shop operations, manage inventory, and ensure timely delivery of materials to contractors and DIY customers. The role emphasizes supervising staff, maintaining stock presentation, and enforcing safety and process standards across the warehouse and delivery workflow.

The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and experience in a building materials environment, with a focus on customer service and team development.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory experience in a building materials environment.
• Has warehouse and truck loading experience.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Meets contractors and DIYers, helps with selection and loading, ensures correct material pulled and staged for pickup or delivery, directs delivery schedules.
• Operations: Maintains warehouse inventory with cycle counts, keeps warehouse organized, ensures correct material is shipped and received, enforces policies on sales and safety, maintains equipment use and maintenance.
• Knowledge and Training: Identifies growth needs, completes required training, pursues ongoing learning on products and procedures, mentors employee career development.
• Staff Management: Directs and manages employment areas including hiring, communication, motivation, discipline, and retention, sets goals for employees and tracks progress.

Job description

A Carter Lumber ProductionSupervisor is responsible for setting the example and providing direction in the operation of the shop. This is accomplished by providing excellent customer service and ensuring that the appropriate material is received by every customer. Maintaining the stock and presentation of items in the shop, inventory control, following delivery processes and communication are all components of this position. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary to this position.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service
  • Meets and greets contractors and do-it-yourselfers while providing exceptional customer service by assisting with the selection and loading of materials. Ensures that material is accurately pulled and staged for pickup or delivery. Directs delivery schedules and responsible for ensuring that they are on time and the correct material and quantities were delivered.
• Operations
  • Responsible for maintaining the inventory in the warehouse by conducting cycle counts, keeping the warehouse organized, ensuring the correct material is shipped and received. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed in the warehouse including sales, inventory and safety. Ensures that all equipment is being properly used and maintained.
• Knowledge and Training
  • Identifies personal growth needs and learning opportunities. Completes required training. Commits to continued learning on products, packages, procedures and more. Encourages and oversees employee career development.
• Staff Management
  • Responsible for setting the direction and managing areas of employment such as; hiring, communication, motivation, discipline, separation and other areas. Ensures goals are outlined for employees and are met.
