Job Title: Production Supervisor Job Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the plant manufacturing processes during assigned shifts. This role involves leading the shift to achieve target objectives, maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring accuracy in quality checks and process settings, and facilitating problem-solving to address process issues. The supervisor promotes teamwork through effective communication across shifts and departments and is tasked with maintaining compliance records, verifying process parameters, and ensuring smooth shift communication.

Responsibilities
  • Direct, train, and supervise daily activities of production work centers from the production floor, delegating responsibilities to meet production deadlines and goals.
  • Operate machinery in a backup capacity as needed.
  • Collaborate with operations management to determine labor requirements, review production schedules, and hire personnel according to budget plans.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including writing and conducting performance reviews and maintaining accurate performance measurement reports.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment per plant requirements and enforce company policies and safety regulations.
  • Foster effective employee relations through coaching and development, working with operations management and human resources to make employment decisions and resolve issues.
  • Lead efforts to reduce waste using COS, SQDC boards, and corrective action sheets.
  • Conduct periodic cycle counts and physical inventories to maintain accurate inventory levels.
  • Lead special projects as needed and serve as backup for operations management during absences.
  • Maintain time and attendance records.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in production supervision and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and industrial process improvement.
  • Proven management skills in manufacturing operations and production management.
  • Minimum of five years in a manufacturing environment with leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of wood products or related industry.
  • Understanding of safety procedures such as lockout/tagout.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and 5S.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in business or technical area required; Bachelor's degree preferred or willingness to obtain with 100% tuition reimbursement.
  • Combination of experience and training equivalent to an associate degree in business or technical area.
  • Basic math and reading skills with the ability to use measuring gauges like tape measures.
  • Efficient problem-solving skills and ability to work in stressful situations.

Work Environment

This role primarily involves time spent on the factory floor, where conditions can vary from cool to hot and from clean to dusty. The remaining time is spent in an office environment. The work pace is fast, leading to potential stressful situations requiring decision-making and action. Occasionally, lifting up to 50 pounds independently is required. Frequent use of hands, simple grasping up to 10 pounds, and occasional pushing and pulling up to 70 pounds are also necessary. The position involves standing and lifting (70%), walking (15%), and squatting, reaching, twisting, and kneeling (15%). The fast-paced manufacturing environment exposes workers to both ambient/outside temperatures, dust, mechanical parts, pinch points, and increased noise levels. Shifts range from 8-10 hours, with flexibility for overtime and weekend hours as needed. The role utilizes heavy, stationary machinery, hand tools, and computers (Shop Floor and ERP).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $85000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
