Job Summary

The Production Department Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation of its department, ensuring alignment with cost, profit, and production goals. The role involves training and developing employees, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish objectives. Some creativity and latitude are expected, with supervision from a manager. The supervisor develops methods and assists in implementing them to achieve departmental plans and goals.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage the production operation across multiple departments and shifts.
2. Oversee and motivate a team of employees to maximize productivity.
3. Identify, research, and resolve various problems and opportunities within the department.
4. Evaluate the performance of individuals and programs.
5. Coach and counsel employees to improve performance and development.
6. Ensure activities comply with all UFP policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
7. Communicate effectively with employees and management.
8. Manage departmental costs and profitability.
9. Oversee department inventory management.
10. Lead employees in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
11. Prepare reports and maintain records as required.
12. Participate in the Safety Committee and ensure compliance with safety standards.
13. Perform other duties as required.
14. If assigned to the Treating Department, perform duties related to hazardous material handling procedures.
15. Operate a forklift to assist in moving materials as needed.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of manufacturing experience, with 1 to 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Working knowledge of production reporting and scheduling.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and other business software.
• Basic knowledge of lumber mathematics, grades, and species.
• Preferred understanding of company policies, practices, and procedures.
• Successful completion of Forklift Driver licensing.
