Job Description: Production Manager

Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, this position is deemed safety-sensitive.
Summary: Based in Fort Wayne, IN, reporting to the General Manager, the Production Manager oversees hiring, training, planning, scheduling, organizing, and directing daily production activities across all shifts. The role requires working with minimal supervision within established guidelines.
Essential Job Functions:
- Direct production activities and manage staffing to meet company goals.
- Oversee shop production schedules and conduct meetings with supervisors.
- Ensure customer needs are met by shipping on schedule with high quality, collaborating closely with the Quality Manager.
- Communicate policy changes from top management to supervisory staff and ensure understanding of safety, product handling, and customer requirements.
- Enforce company policies and communicate disciplinary matters with the Office Manager or General Manager.
- Maintain energy conservation programs, control labor costs, and oversee expenditures within guidelines.
- Ensure safe operation of equipment and promote safe work habits, administering the safety program.
- Handle purchasing and approval of materials, tools, and fixtures.
- Participate in management staff meetings.
- Work in accordance with EMS standards.
- Handle sensitive compensation information confidentially.
- Care for customer inventory responsibly to prevent loss or damage.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the General Manager.
- Demonstrate effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced training preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of heat treating, metallurgy, operations management, inspection, and customer needs, supported by technical training or work experience.
- Minimum five years of practical heat treatment experience and supervisory experience.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of metals, furnaces, and plant equipment capabilities.
- Blueprint reading and interpretation skills.
- Understanding of customer needs, material handling, and quality control.
- Knowledge of safety programs, OSHA regulations, and labor laws.
- Trustworthiness, positive attitude, and computer literacy.
- Ability to promote positive employee relations and understand company policies.
- Reliable attendance and compliance with rules and procedures.
Physical & Mental Demands:
- Work in sitting/standing positions for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for data entry.
- Ability to bend, lift 25-50 lbs., and perform physical tasks.
- Exposure to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc.
- Effective communication skills and visual acuity.
