Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Production Planner to oversee master schedules, release work orders in SAP, and coordinate with operations to keep production on track.

The role requires strong ERP/MRP knowledge, 5+ years in manufacturing planning, and the ability to react quickly to shop-floor changes while maintaining data integrity.

This onsite position is based in Somerset, NJ, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Planning, Scheduling, or Production Control.
• Degree in Manufacturing, Operations, or related field.
• Experience building and adjusting production schedules and owning work order execution.
• Strong understanding of MRP outputs as execution signals.
• Hands-on ERP experience, SAP strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and collaboration on the shop floor.

Job Title: Production Planner Job Description

As a Production Planner, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing the production process by overseeing work orders, scheduling, and coordinating with various departments to ensure smooth operations.

Responsibilities

• Own daily work order management, including release, prioritization, sequencing, and closure in SAP.
• Execute and adjust short-term production schedules based on real-time shop floor conditions.
• Monitor open, in-process, and late work orders; drive timely completion and recovery actions.
• Re-prioritize and reschedule work orders to address material shortages, rework, and capacity constraints.
• Ensure accurate work order data in SAP, including status, lead times, priorities, and completions.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing to align job priorities and resolve execution issues on the floor.
• Act on MRP exception messages to maintain flow and prevent delays in work orders.
• Support implementation of ECNs and MRB dispositions within active work orders.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Manufacturing Planning, Scheduling, or Production Control.
• Degree in Manufacturing, Operations, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience building and adjusting production schedules and owning work order execution.
• Strong understanding of MRP outputs as execution signals.
• Hands-on experience with ERP systems, with SAP strongly preferred.
• Strong production execution mindset with the ability to make frequent, time-sensitive scheduling decisions.
• Comfortable working directly with Manufacturing Supervisors and Project Managers on the shop floor.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and schedule recovery.
• Detail-oriented with strong ownership of work orders and commitments.
• Clear, concise communicator with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting low-volume, long-lead production is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, WIP control, and production flow preferred.
• Experience in complex manufacturing environments such as Capital Equipment, Semiconductor, Medical Device, Aerospace, Industrial Equipment, or Automation Equipment.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role from Monday to Friday. The role involves direct engagement with various departments including Operations, Quality, Engineering, and Procurement. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic and complex manufacturing environment, handling large BOMs and complex assemblies.

This is a Permanent position based out of Somerset, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

• The pay range for this position is $77126.00 - $97693.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
