MSA Safety is seeking a Production Planning Specialist to convert plans from ERP data into actionable schedules. You will monitor workload, optimize capacity, and maintain SAP master data to ensure timely production and accurate MRP signals. Collaboration with NPD, production supervisors, and customer service is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business or logistics fields.
  • APICS CPIM accreditation preferred.
  • Experience using SAP for production planning and inventory control.

Responsibilities

  • Convert ERP reports or planned orders into production plans considering material availability and customer needs.
  • Maintain production orders to provide accurate MRP signals.
  • Use SAP demand signals to understand workload per production line and aid capacity planning.
  • Prioritize lines using SAP exception messages to adjust schedules per changing requirements.
  • Coordinate with New Product Development on master data setup, workload planning, and beta/stock builds for readiness.
  • Communicate production schedule changes to line managers and customer service when needed.
  • Maintain SAP master data: lead times, MRP settings, material views and replenishment data.
  • Apply root-cause problem solving to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Use ERP generated reports or planned orders to convert to production plan, acknowledging incoming supply of materials, inventory availability, resource constraints, and internal or external customers' needs.
  • Ensure production orders are maintained to provide accurate MRP signals.
  • Utilize demand signals from SAP to understand workload per responsible production line and aid the capacity planning process.
  • Prioritize production lines by utilizing SAP exception messaging to expedite, de-expedite, reschedule and re-plan assigned work centers based on internal and external customers' dynamically changing needs.
  • Work closely with the New Product Development project teams as it relates to master data set up, workload planning, driving demand signals in SAP, and scheduling beta and stock builds to ensure production readiness.
  • Ensure execution of production plan through verbal and electronic communication of production schedule to the assigned production supervisor and group leader.
  • Communicate any production schedule changes to the product line manager and customer service when necessary.
  • Maintain SAP master data including production lead time, MRP settings, MRP relevant material master views, total replenish lead time, repetitive scheduling set up and maintenance.
  • Utilize the internal continuousimprovement operating system to correctly identify root causes of problems and drive corrective action results.

  • Proven ability to model disciplined execution following detailed standard work, maintaining a high level of attention to detail, driving efficiency, productivity and personal accountability.
  • Demonstratesan innovative and technological mindset to ensure master data integrity andaccuracy, seek out latest industry trends,road-map future technology and champion early adoption.
  • Sound ability to make data driven and analytical decisions by identifying trends and opportunities, making problems visible, and utilizing financial acumen to justify investments and influence decisions.
  • Proven abilityin challenging the status quo to drive continuous improvement promoting the use of root cause problem solving, valuing new ideas, inspiring others, and demonstrating effective use of change management principles.
  • Proven success in building partnerships, influencing others, and communicating effectively both in verbal and written form, seeking diverse perspectives, andstrong emotional intelligence to enable cross functional collaboration.
Education and experience required
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Business, or Logistics related fields
Experience
  • Level I:
    • Entry level. No production planning experience required.
  • Level II:
    • 2+ years production planning experience.
  • Level III:
    • 4+ years of production planning experience.
  • Preferred:
    • Planning in a versatile production/manufacturing environment
    • Experience with SAP (production planning and inventory control modules)
    • Experience Power BI, BW or other reporting software
    • Business process ownership that demonstrates ability to influence and communicate
Education and experience preferred
  • APICS, CPIM or like accreditation preferred
  • Experience using SAP for production planning and inventory control modules
  • Production planning in a versatile manufacturing environment
