Job description

All About You

The Production Operator-Dry Roomwill perform duties necessary to the assembly of Lithium SO2 cells. Operations include winding cell material into jelly roll configuration and inserting into can, placing insulating washers on top shells, attaching top shell to can assembly, crimping top shell to can assembly, welding top shell to can assembly, performing continuity checks when necessary, performing in-line quality checks after each operation, performing simple and complex maintenance, and contributing to team and plant wide activities. Must become certified on all operations within the Dry Room within 12 months. All tasks will be performed while supporting the policies, procedures, goals and objectives of the company.

Requirements
  • So2 Cell Winding: Wind cathode, separator and anode assembly into jellyroll and insert into can. Performs various material quality checks to ensure proper specifications are being obtained before and during winding process. Performs in-line quality checks after each wind. Make minor adjustments to the winder when necessary. Records quality checks and fills out flow cards. Changes material when needed.
  • Employee will be expected to perform any other assignments and duties as assigned.
  • Tab to Can: Welds two set of welds on nickel anode tab to can/jellyroll assembly. Performs in-line quality checks before and after welding. Changes electrodes as needed. Records quality checks.
  • Percussion Weld: Welds a topshell assembly to can/jellyroll assembly. Performs in-line quality checks before and after each weld. Changes electrodes as needed. Records quality checks. Restock winders with material as needed.
  • Crimp/Flat press: Most lines have automatic crimpers, quality checks are still performed. Some cell types require flat press, ensure topshell is seated on can properly. Performs in-line quality checks. Records quality checks.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Tig Weld: Monitors the welding of topshell assembly to can assembly and make equipment adjustments as needed. Performs in-line quality checks for each tig welded cell. Manually repairs any welding defects. Performs continuity checks as required and accurately records all failures. Break down scrap cells. Records quality checks. Marks tigged cells and fills out flow cards. Record production hourly. Restock winders as needed.
  • The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
  • Certification on Jobs in assigned work area.
  • Mental/visual effort required in performing assemblies of batteries requiring close attention to detail.
  • Maintain 6S in assigned work area.
  • Assemble components into cell and/or battery pack.
  • A high degree of manual dexterity is necessary to assemble units per specifications.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and use small hand tools and measuring instruments capable for measuring thickness to “.0005”.
  • Employee must be able to use both hands to quickly and accurately perform assembly tasks at a rate of more than 6 repetitions per minute.
Responsibilities
  • Ability to learn to operate a wider variety of equipment.
  • Must be able to see and differentiate colors and be able to pass a color blindness test.
  • The employee must regularly lift trays of cells/batteries and be able to sit or stand up to 50% of work time depending upon particular operation.
  • Must be capable of a moderate degree of visual acuteness when working with precision equipment requiring close tolerances.
  • Must be able to wear safety glasses, goggles, splash shield, chemical suits, and other protective clothing as warranted by the work situation.
  • High school education or GED required. Vocational education exposure preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to read, write, and perform simple math.
  • Manufacturing Experience is highly desired.
  • Must be willing and able to work any assigned shift and to work overtime on weekdays as well as Saturdays and Sundays if required.
  • Two to four weeks on the job training necessary to become familiar with job procedures and achieve certification for each job.
  • Independent judgment is necessary to make minor mechanical adjustments (after required training), which if not done or done improperly, could result in equipment, material, or product damage.
