Job description

People selected for a Production Operator position may be placed in various roles within the production process of our Crown Health Care Laundry plant. Assignments are determined based on hiring needs and production levels in each area, which include Soil and Clean operations. Pay rates and scheduled work hours are based on the assigned area.

The primary purpose of the Production Operator is to rotate through various positions within the plant to facilitate the receiving, sorting, washing, drying, ironing, and loading of linens for delivery to hospitals and medical facilities. Operators will learn to operate various equipment, ensuring safety and exceeding customer expectations daily.

Employees are required to learn all equipment and rotate as needed, with typical learning curves of 2-5 days per position. Standards must be met within two weeks of hire and maintained throughout employment. Placement will depend on production needs and employee skills.

All Production Operators will perform other duties as assigned, adhere to quality and safety standards, and be capable of performing essential functions of the job with or without accommodations.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma or GED preferred, excellent teamwork skills, and willingness to rotate across all jobs.

Soil Operations

The primary purpose is to safely sort returned, soiled linen into appropriate classifications for washing and preparing carts for the Clean Production side.

Soil Operations: Duties & Essential Functions

  1. Open customer-returned soil bags (~45 lbs.), discard plastic, spread product for visibility, and pre-sort as required. Standard is 45 bags or 2000 lbs. per hour.
  2. Float between positions on the work platform, sorting linens into bins quickly and accurately as part of a team.
  3. Move empty carts for cleaning and reuse.
  4. Ensure carts are cleaned, sterilized, dried, and lined for loading onto trucks.
Clean Operations

Employees will learn to operate equipment and rotate positions such as Catcher, Hand Folder, Ironer, and Shipping Clerk, performing duties specific to each role.

Catcher

Secure linen carts, stack and build carts to standards, remove linens from machines, and handle jams by contacting maintenance. Maintain quality standards and identify non-Crown linens or stained items for removal.

Hand Folder

Hand fold items coming out of washers or pressers, stack, and prepare for the next process. Make quality decisions regarding item condition and identify non-company products.

Ironer

Feed linens into the machine, ensure quality, and decide when items need re-washing due to defects. Call maintenance for machine issues while adhering to safety standards.

Shipping Clerk

Build and weigh finished carts, record weights accurately, and ensure proper documentation and loading onto trucks. May also perform other roles as needed, requiring basic computer skills and good recordkeeping and analytical skills.
