Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Production Manager Trainee in the United States to learn all farm department operations. You will become certified in pig production processes, health, and welfare, while performing hourly tasks under supervision and generating progress reports.

The role requires leadership potential, ability to relocate for training, and comfort with a demanding 48-hour week, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related agricultural field, or enrolled student with expected graduation.
  • Must be able to work ~48 hours per week, variable hours.
  • Weekend, evening and holiday work as needed.
  • Must shower in and out of farm facilities daily.
  • Ability to lead others and relocate for training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Team oriented with strong collaboration.
  • Support the mission of raising swine for high-quality pork.
  • Willingness to perform animal husbandry tasks and operate farm equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and become certified in farm department areas including Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing.
  • Understand and implement Smithfield systems: pig production, animal flow, farm health, genetics, husbandry.
  • Perform and master hourly tasks under supervision and gain certification.
  • Develop reports on experiences and share improvement opportunities.
  • Comply with environmental laws and Smithfield IPS, biosecurity and EMS policies.
  • Complete Leadership Certification and lead others as assigned.
  • Be aware of environmental, animal care, and biosecurity issues and report them promptly.
  • Act as interim Head of Department as needed by management.
  • Be on call for emergencies such as weather, alarms, shortages, and incidents.
  • Progress through the Manager Training development program and communicate blockers.
