Responsibilities

  • Monitor work orders, production status, backlog, and capacity to identify risks and recovery actions.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Supply Chain to address material shortages, supplier delays, and inventory needs.
  • Balance workloads with Operations leadership to improve material flow through the plant.
  • Maintain planning data in D365 including lead times, routings, and capacity assumptions.
  • Lead planning meetings and communicate schedule changes and risks to stakeholders.
  • Analyze planning and delivery data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement focused on lead-time reduction and efficiency.
  • Develop planning procedures, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Lead and develop Production Planning team members.

This Opportunity

The Production Planning Manager is responsible for leading production planning and scheduling activities to ensure materials, labor, equipment, and capacity are aligned to meet customer commitments and business objectives. This role partners closely with Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, and Project Management to maintain accurate schedules, manage constraints, improve workflow, and support on‑time delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Supply Chain Director, lead the production planning and scheduling process across manufacturing operations.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer requirements, material availability, labor capacity, engineering release dates, and equipment availability.
  • Monitor work orders, production status, backlog, and capacity to identify risks to delivery commitments and recommend recovery actions.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Supply Chain to address material shortages, supplier delays, and inventory needs that affect production schedules.
  • Work with Operations leadership and supervisors to balance workloads, prioritize work, and improve the flow of materials through the plant.
  • Maintain accurate production planning data within Microsoft D365, including lead times, routings, work order status, and capacity assumptions.
  • Lead regular planning meetings and communicate schedule changes, priorities, constraints, and delivery risks to key stakeholders.
  • Analyze planning, inventory, throughput, and on‑time delivery data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on lead‑time reduction, inventory optimization, schedule adherence, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain planning procedures, reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Production Planning team members, as applicable.
  • Support cross‑functional projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 7 or more years of progressive experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with engineered‑to‑order, project‑based, or complex production schedules required.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, production scheduling, capacity planning, inventory management, and work order processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and ability to analyze operational data.
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and adapt quickly to changing production demands.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or process improvement initiatives preferred.
