Portland Coffee Roasters is looking for a strong people leader to supervise and optimize our production operations. The Production Manager oversees day-to-day operations for coffee production and packaging, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety while leading a union-represented team. This role blends hands-on leadership on the floor with strategic planning and administrative oversight. This position must also ensure compliance with labor relations requirements, including any effective collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and supervision of employees represented by a union.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

People Management

  • Adhere to PCR policies for hiring, interviewing, evaluating, and managing performance.
  • Lead, coach, and develop production team members, including union-represented staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, discipline/terminations, development plans, and all other human resources functions for the production staff.
  • Provide development and training opportunities for every member of your team.
  • Ensure a positive, inclusive culture aligned with company values.
  • Partner with HR on labor relations, grievances, and compliance with CBAs.

Production Operations

  • Develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules.
  • Monitor KPIs and labor costs; track variances and performance.
  • Ensure quality, inventory accuracy, and fulfillment targets are met.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, SQF, and safety standards.
  • Support maintenance, inventory counts, and supply readiness.
  • Lead production meetings and communicate updates across departments.

Union & Labor Relations

  • Apply and uphold collective bargaining agreements in daily operations.
  • Collaborate with HR on contract administration, disciplinary actions, work rules, and dispute resolution.
  • Maintain clear, respectful communication with union-represented staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor contracts and support contract administration..
  • Foster a collaborative working relationship with union-represented employees while ensuring operational goalsare met.

RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of production/manufacturing experience (food/beverage preferred)
  • 3+ years in a supervisory/management role, ideally overseeing large teams and interconnected manufacturing operations
  • Experience in a unionized setting strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in conflict resolution and managing employee relations in a union setting.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong communication, team-building, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with labor laws, CBAs, and compliance standards
  • Ability to lead through change, coach for performance, and drive results
  • Comfort with technology and systems

  • Work will take place in our Head Quarters location.
