Job summary

Saint-Gobain seeks a Production Manager for our Ennis, Texas roofing manufacturing facility. You will lead production teams to ensure safe, efficient, and quality output per specifications, reporting to the Operations Manager and coordinating with Supervisors and crews.

You will drive safety, lean practices, and process improvements, coach staff, manage schedules, and ensure environmental compliance. The role requires strong leadership and the ability to work a day shift with some weekend work.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Commitment to safe work behaviors and understanding machine operations.
  • Computer literacy; knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, listening, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and solve problems.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to read/write and perform basic math.
  • Knowledge of production operations, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to work day shift with weekends on rotating/fixed schedule.
  • Willingness to travel ~10% for training.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct production activities to meet safety, quality, cost, throughput, and process requirements.
  • Establish and coordinate work schedules, assignments, and production needs.
  • Monitor performance, interpret specifications, and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Maintain knowledge of manufacturing processes to keep products within spec.
  • Communicate requirements and updates to the Operations Manager.
  • Collaborate with plant leadership and support Maintenance and Engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Report injuries and incidents; participate in investigations.
  • Support job safety analyses and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure waste management and recycling responsibilities are met.
  • Coach and develop Production Supervisors and crews.
  • Address employee matters including payroll, recognition, performance, and corrective action.
  • Promote positive labor relations and safe, efficient operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and proper housekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Production Manager leads all production activities at our Ennis, Texas roofing manufacturing facility, ensuring quality products are produced safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established process specifications. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and manages Production Supervisors and production line personnel assigned to the production crews.

In this role, you will:

  • Supervise and direct production activities to meet or exceed safety, quality, cost, throughput, and process requirements.

  • Establish and coordinate work schedules, assignments, production requirements, and operational activities.

  • Monitor production and processing performance, interpret production specifications, determine product acceptability, and assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure products are manufactured within specification.

  • Communicate production requirements and performance updates to the Operations Manager.

  • Collaborate as a member of the plant’s second-level operations management team and support Maintenance and Engineering activities.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements, policies, and procedures.

  • Report injuries, recordable incidents, first-aid cases, near misses, environmental events, and property or equipment damage.

  • Participate in incident and near-miss investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Support the development and review of job safety analyses and standard operating procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with waste management and recycling responsibilities.

  • Coach, mentor, train, and develop Production Supervisors and production crews.

  • Address employee matters consistently and promptly, including payroll, recognition, performance accountability, and corrective action.

  • Administer work rules equitably, maintain open communication, support positive labor relations, and ensure employees are treated with dignity and respect.

  • Promote continuous improvement, safe work practices, effective housekeeping, and operational accountability.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience-

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work behaviors and the ability to understand machine operations.

  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate results, select appropriate solutions, and solve problems.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.

  • Working knowledge of production operations, practices, and procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop, motivate, coach, and direct employees.

  • Ability to work a day shift, including weekends, on a rotating or fixed schedule.

  • Ability to work an average of 40 hours per week.

  • Ability to travel approximately 10% for training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Four-year degree; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Five-plus years of supervisory experience with exposure to a manufacturing environment.

Physical Demands

  • Occasional climbing and balancing; bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; standing and walking; and sitting.

  • Rare finger, grasping, handling, feeling, and repetitive wrist, hand, or finger motions.

  • Walking, bending, twisting, gripping, climbing stairs and ladders, entering confined spaces, and navigating rough terrain.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

  • Potential for extended periods of sitting, walking, or standing, computer use, and telephone conversations.

  • Use of a computer, two-way radio, and audiovisual or presentation materials.

  • Ability to speak clearly and see details within a few feet.

The position works in a non-temperature-controlled manufacturing environment. Conditions may include heat, cold, humidity, dust, fumes, dirt, chemicals, gases, smoke, noise above 80 decibels, hazardous materials, vibration, poor lighting, confined areas, moving equipment, and required use of safety equipment or protective clothing. Manufacturing materials include granules, silica sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene.
