Main Duties & Responsibilities

Job Summary: Manages all hourly third shift Production and Maintenance employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Coordinates the manufacturing schedule and production activities for the 3rd shift to achieve budgeted productivity, shipping, and fill rate goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

1. Reviews general status of production schedules to ensure that schedules are being met, and if necessary, assigns or adjusts schedules and/or personnel to balance and expedite work through production areas.
2. Assures that the desired product quality levels are achieved through proper operator training with operation and inspection techniques, use of tools, and overall job responsibilities.
3. Recommends methods and procedures to control and improve product quality.
4. Makes recommendations related to quality, efficiency, machine utilization, scrap, budget status, etc.
5. Takes corrective action when necessary to improve the overall performance of his/her production area(s).
6. Coordinates with Production Superintendent and PIC team to set priorities for specific customer orders.
7. Revises schedule according to work order specifications, established priorities, and availability or capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.
8. Coordinates with 1st shift Maintenance Supervisor to verify 3rd shift maintenance is focused on proper tasks and schedules necessary machine downtime for preventative maintenance.
9. Utilizes MaintainX for Maintenance needs and communication.
10. Reviews and analyzes production and operational reports and statistics to evaluate conformity with product standards, and the utilization of human resources, materials, and equipment.
11. Confers with department supervisors to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received from engineering departments.
12. Compiles reports concerning progress of work and downtime due to failures of machines and equipment to inform production planning personnel of delays.
13. Maintains inventory of materials and parts needed to complete production and expedites production of spare parts.
14. Monitors and maintains attendance records.
15. Communicates regularly with employees and participates in training and safety programs to enhance overall effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in manufacturing technology and line operating experience. Practical work experience in supervision, quality, and product reliability. Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Physical Requirements: The position requires the mental ability to read, comprehend policies, procedures, instructions, and to write reports. It requires logical thinking, data analysis, effective communication, and a degree of independence, judgment, and discretion. Physically, it involves mobility in an office and industrial environment, ability to finger and grasp materials, speak effectively, and listen attentively.
