Job Summary
Support a team of equipment technicians responsible for equipment safety, uptime, and performance. Perform and oversee repairs and preventative/predictive maintenance on various production equipment. Develop and maintain maintenance and calibration schedules for tools, machinery, and equipment used in manufacturing. Lead activities supporting the operations team, including 5S, Lean manufacturing, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures. Manage workload positively as a hands-on team player in a collaborative environment. This role also requires understanding of Quality Management Systems like SQF and GMP to ensure safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFPA, USDA, FDA, etc., and work with site leadership to improve safety practices.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs to ensure equipment safety, reliability, and performance, scheduling maintenance effectively to meet production needs.
- Supervise, train, and coach maintenance staff to achieve equipment uptime, repairs, and production goals; assist in resolving technical issues.
- Identify training needs and help develop programs including hands-on technical training, root cause analysis, and predictive maintenance.
- Oversee production equipment rebuilds, line moves, installations, setups, and calibrations; coordinate with OEMs for emergency repairs.
- Maintain shift communication to align team goals and inform about issues affecting the plant.
- Track and report maintenance performance metrics like uptime, PM compliance, and overtime.
- Manage department records and inventories, ensuring adequate spare parts availability.
Qualifications
Experience
- At least 3 years in maintenance leadership within manufacturing.
- Over 5 years as a maintenance mechanic in manufacturing.
- Experience developing preventive maintenance programs; familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout, hazard analysis, permits, and confined spaces.
Preferred
- Experience in food processing environments and knowledge of USDA, FDA, SQF standards.
- Training in diagnostic techniques like vibration, oil, ultrasonic, and thermographic testing.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two-year technical degree preferred.
Certificates & Skills
- Own tools required; diagnostic equipment provided.
- Training in electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair preferred.
- Knowledge of OSHA, environmental, and food safety regulations.
- Computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with CMMS required.
- Knowledge of PLC, VFD/VSD, relay logic, welding, and cutting preferred.
- Ability to operate forklifts and read technical manuals.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and multitasking skills.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift heavy items, operate equipment, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Work in hot, cold, humid, or wet environments, with exposure to mechanical parts, confined spaces, and airborne particles.
- Non-traditional hours including nights, weekends, and travel as needed.
