Job summary

General Stamping & Metalworks in Tomah, Wisconsin is seeking a Production Lead responsible for training employees to defined standards, ensuring accurate job routings and adherence to company policies. This hands-on role requires operating manufacturing equipment and maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality in a fast-paced metalworking environment.

You will report to the Production Supervisor, direct work in their absence, develop assessment tools, monitor progress, and collaborate

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED and 3–5 years of related experience or training.
  • Prefer 2+ years of experience running press brake machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprint specifications and perform inspections.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive instruction in the operation of all manufacturing equipment within the department.
  • Collaborate to ensure training documents reflect current state processes.
  • Receive factory training on all new equipment and technologies.
  • Assess and record employees' skills according to established standards.
  • Assist in developing assessment tools.
  • Monitor and communicate employee progress with supervisors and Training Manager.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of all equipment within the department.
  • Collaborate to solve departmental problems related to machines, tools, staff, materials, processes and systems.

The Production Lead has the responsibility to train employees to defined departmental standards, job routings, departmental best practices and company policies. This is a working position and machine operation is required.

It is expected that tasks and requirements will change from time to time and employees will be asked to respond as needed and within reason.

Organizational Relationships and Authority

The Production Lead reports directly to the Production Supervisor. There are no direct reports associated with this position. The Production Lead will have the authority to direct work of others whenever the Production Supervisor is not present in the department. They will also have the authority and responsibility to temporarily stop and correct a safety or manufacturing-related concern.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Production Lead is to prepare employees to perform work expertly. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides comprehensive instruction in the operation of all manufacturing equipment within the department.
  • Collaborates to ensure training documents reflect current state processes
  • Receives factory training on all new equipment and technologies
  • Assesses and records employees skills according to established standards
  • Assists in developing assessment tools
  • Monitors and communicates employee progress with supervisors and Training Manager
  • Maintains expert knowledge of all equipment within the department/area of focus
  • Collaborates to effectively solve departmental problems related to machines, tools, staff, materials, processes and systems
Qualifications and Competencies

  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprint specifications and perform inspections

  • First Aid and CPR certified

Education
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED and three to five years related experience and/or training.
Experience

Minimum of three years of experience within a manufacturing environment is required, preferably in metal fabrication or related industry. 2 Years or more experience running Press Brake Machines is preferred
