Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics in Allegan, MI is seeking a manufacturing operations engineer to provide technical expertise and lead improvements on packaging lines and production cells.

You will collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations, drive DMAIC projects, train teams, support capital initiatives from scope to startup, and ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced cGMP environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Engineering Management).
  • Strong fundamentals of equipment operation; use standard engineering principles/techniques.
  • Ability to read drawings, flowcharts, schematics.
  • Demonstrated lean and six sigma understanding; experience with continuous improvement techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Review the previous 24 hours of production data on designated work centers and address urgent needs.
  • Track line efficiency using Pareto charts and data tracking software.
  • Monitor changes to ensure impact and ROI are achieved.
  • Coordinate and lead continuous improvement projects using DMAIC.
  • Generate data for project scopes, cost estimates, economic justifications, and capital appropriation requests.
  • Provide direction as a project manager to allied support groups and interface with departments, consultants, and contractors.

Description Overview
  • Provide technical expertise and solutions to support operations in the Allegan, MI manufacturing plant.
  • Work with engineering, quality, and operations teams and interface with plant managers, supervisors, maintenance, safety, and scheduling to implement changes and investigate/resolve problems impacting plant safety, quality, and efficiency.
Scope of the Role
Day to Day Operations
  • Review the previous 24 hours of production data on designated work centers; address urgent needs (e.g., troubleshooting, vendor contact, Gemba support).
  • Track line efficiency (Pareto charts, DT, and work center-based data tracking software).
  • Monitor and follow up on changes to ensure impact and ROI are achieved.
Lean Six Sigma (Zero Loss Mentality + Perrigo Work System Focus)
  • Coordinate and lead continuous improvement projects to reduce waste and improve efficiency/capability.
  • Align with cross-functional partners on project prioritization.
  • Develop and implement solutions independently and in a team setting using DMAIC problem-solving.
Subject Matter Expert (SME)
  • Act as technical expert in the latest packaging equipment and associated technology.
  • Provide training to operations and support groups.
  • Apply engineering principles to solve complex technical problems.
  • Support operations to meet Compliance, OSHA, Environmental, Safety, cGMP, and Corporate/Site Quality requirements.
Capital Projects (Cradle to grave asset support)
  • Generate data for project scopes, cost estimates, economic justifications, and capital appropriation requests.
  • Support equipment installations and process improvements; assist with URS, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, and vertical startup.
  • Provide direction as a project manager to allied support groups and interface with departments, consultants, and contractors.
Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Engineering Management).
  • Strong fundamentals of equipment operation; use standard engineering principles/techniques.
  • Ability to read drawings, flowcharts, schematics.
  • Demonstrated lean and six sigma understanding; experience with continuous improvement techniques.
