Job description

This position is responsible to support manufacturing within the plant facility. The incumbent implements, leads, and directs the Process Control programs and efforts for manufacturing and provides long-term manufacturing process vision and strategic process development plans for non-woven products and raw materials. The incumbent assembles and maintains a responsive network of capable technical staff fostering long-term technical relationships within the manufacturing facilities and external customers. This position manages the efficiency and cost of goods of products produced in the plant manufacturing facility and develops QA protocol that will predict product performance in the customer’s process. The incumbent establishes business plans that help align the technical activities within Company goals. The incumbent participates in the design and development of new processes and works with various departments to collect and analyze data including statistical and engineering analysis. This position assists in mentoring others relating to compliance to company procedures to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals in a continuous improvement environment. Additional duties include participating in Lean projects and active participation in a continuous improvement culture throughout the Company providing technical assistance to internal and external customers, distributors and salespersons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, manages and leads continuous process improvement efforts for the plant facility. This includes manufacturing, vendors and customers in the development of processes (that include technology, raw materials, and methods to improve production and reduce costs and variation) while improving product performance.
  • Directs continuous product improvements and new product development efforts focusing on methods to utilize new/existing technology, raw materials, better manufacturing practices with the goal of reducing product cost or improving product performance.
  • Resolve customer complaint issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct random audits of the finished goods and lab testing data for the purpose of verification of product conformance to customer’s expectations.
  • Supports/leads/coaches/selects to develop technical leadership of Facility.
  • Represents Manufacturing/Technical at Business Team Huddles and/or customer contacts.
  • Describes needed processing changes to automation designers/vendors for design/development.
  • Improves existing processes to increase output and yields and improves product quality.
  • Tests said designs to meet the intended corrections. Validates process improvements.
  • Inputs to the development of new processing automation to improve processing quality, reduce costs and maintenance.
  • Interfaces with vendors to ensure smooth transition of design implementation.
  • Works with project teams made up of manufacturing leads on Six Sigma and Lean projects.
  • Coordinates efforts to achieve quick wins.
  • Determines the most effective arrangement of operations.
  • Conducts research to develop new and improved mechanical and manufacturing processes.
  • Designs and plans layout of equipment.
  • Designs and develops new manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Provides strong engineering and analytical capabilities to team.
  • Communicates with internal/external customers on project status, implementation, etc.
  • Works closely with production teams during design and implementation of projects.
  • Works with internal development teams to implement solutions.
  • Develops required manufacturing and quality processes and equipment to ensure manufacture and timely delivery of product.
  • Evaluates production capacity capabilities of existing operations and recommends and implements enhancements as needed.
  • Champions quality improvement initiatives through Six Sigma process improvement projects.
  • Analyzes production processes, work balance, production scheduling, capacity, and cell concepts to optimize crew distribution for efficiency, capacity, and lead time.
  • Provides leadership for production efficiency improvement initiatives plant wide.
  • Monitors production processes and then works with operations personnel to create standard work procedures, enhance flow, and implement Lean concepts throughout the plant including Six Sigma, Lean, etc.
  • Develops and leads cost reduction projects.
  • Provides Manufacturing Engineering and facilities planning and support for new product launches.
  • Constantly promote all continuous improvement activities through the tools of ISO9001:2015.
  • Initiates and manages a wide range of structured problem-solving activities across the plant.
  • Directs and coordinates activities by quality engineers, operations personnel, and outside groups involving scrap/rework reduction and warranty corrective actions.
  • Works closely with plant teams to assure that projects are completed and defects are permanently eliminated.
  • Provides detailed failure-analysis and problem-solving feedback to project teams.
  • Leverages yield improvements across product lines and plant location.
  • Keeps abreast of new technologies, products and supply/distribution channels relative to the industry.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with full MS Suite of tools including Windows, Word, Excel, Project.
  • Experience with SAP R/3 SAP BW preferred.
  • Understanding of Correction Action/Failure Reporting (FRACAS) and IS9001 compliance.
  • Must be experienced in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events, 5S, Kanban, value stream and process mapping.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build networks will be essential to foster team success and accomplish the project objectives.
  • Comprehensive financial analysis experience.
  • Excellent presentation, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet project time lines while handling multiple projects with shifting priorities.
  • Financial and business acumen.
  • Exceptional attention to detail required.
  • Ability to understand and translate complex technical and business information to internal/external audiences.
  • Understanding of customer, competitor and supplier relationships.

CERTIFICATIONS

Six Sigma Greenbelt or higher preferred.
