Job summary

Salas O’Brien is seeking a Production Engineer to support the Scorpius project in Los Alamos, NM, focusing on transitioning complex systems from design to fabrication and production. You will work with engineering, technicians, procurement, and project teams to resolve challenges while meeting technical and schedule requirements.

You will review drawings and BOMs, identify manufacturability constraints, and drive process improvements across manufacturing and assembly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline such as mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, production, fabrication, or integration of complex systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, and configuration control.
• Strong communication, documentation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOE site access.

Responsibilities

• Support production, fabrication, assembly, and integration activities for Scorpius systems.
• Translate engineering designs into executable production and assembly processes.
• Review drawings, BOMs, and work instructions for manufacturability and readiness.
• Identify and resolve production issues, design conflicts, or material constraints.
• Develop and improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, tooling, and workflows.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality, vendors, and technicians on schedules.
• Support design changes, nonconformance resolution, and technical changes.
• Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, testing, and integration.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and repeatability.
• Maintain production documentation and communicate status to stakeholders.
