Job summary

Salas O’Brien seeks an Engineering Technician to support the Scorpius project at Los Alamos National Laboratory. You will install, wire, assemble, test, and troubleshoot electrical systems for accelerator components, working with engineers across national labs to ensure quality and safety compliance.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s in a related field and 5 years of experience in electrical assembly, with familiarity in GD&T and lab test equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math, or related field.
• 5 years’ experience (or equivalent).
• Basic knowledge of GD&T and experience with mechanical assembly.
• Familiarity with lab test equipment and basic shop tools.

Responsibilities

• Install, wire, assemble, and test electrical systems and subsystems for accelerator components (e.g., IVA, SAC assemblies, LRU-8).
• Perform electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on power, control, and instrumentation systems.
• Coordinate and support fabrication, assembly, and electrical testing activities.
• Assist with system integration, maintenance, and upgrades.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
• Use lab test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, hipot testers) to verify system performance.
• Support and help train technicians in electrical assembly and safe work practices.
• Collaborate with engineers and technical teams across multiple national labs and sites.
• Ensure compliance with electrical, quality, and safety standards, including disciplined operations and documentation requirements] ,
