Responsibilities

  • Follow standard mixing procedures for production of liquid chemical compounds.
  • Measure, weigh, and mix chemical ingredients according to specifications.
  • Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressure, feed, or flow of liquids or gases and times of prescribed reactions.
  • Take samples of the compound and turn them over to a laboratory for testing.
  • Inspect equipment for leaks or malfunctions and shut down if necessary.
  • Complete necessary documentation regarding the compounded batches and record data.
  • Observe safety precautions to prevent fires or explosions.

JOB SUMMARY

Liquid Compounders operate machinery that mixes and blends liquid raw materials to produce chemical compounds. They must follow standard instructions to measure or weigh dyes, chemicals, and other substances into the machinery. Read plant specifications to determine products, ingredients, or prescribed modifications of plant procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Follow standard mixing procedures for production of liquid chemical compounds.
  • Measure, weigh, and mix chemical ingredients, according to specifications.
  • Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressure, feed, or flow of liquids or gases and times of prescribed reactions, according to knowledge of equipment and processes.
  • Must check for consistency in various batches.
  • Take samples of the compound and turn them over to a laboratory for testing. Draw samples of products at specified stages so that analyses can be performed.
  • Follow sanitation and safety guidelines thoroughly when cleaning machinery.
  • Complete necessary documentation regarding the compounded batches. Record operational data, such as temperatures, pressures, ingredients used, processing times, or test results.
  • Inspect equipment or units to detect leaks or malfunctions, shutting equipment down if necessary.
  • Monitor gauges, recording instruments, flowmeters, or products to ensure that specified conditions are maintained.
  • Drain equipment and pump water or other solutions through to flush and clean tanks or equipment.
  • Observe safety precautions to prevent fires or explosions.
  • Complete special projects upon requests, and other duties may be assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required: A liquid compounder must have basic mathematics skills as well as a solid understanding of the metric system. The candidate must be able to understand manufacturing instructions and formulas. The candidate must be able to lift heavy drums and bags as well as be prepared to wear a full-body suit and respirator for protection from chemicals. A compounder must be able to pay strict attention to detail since the job requires monitoring equipment, controlling temperatures, and checking for overall consistency in mixes.

EDUCATION

Required: Non-degreed candidates must have equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: 2-3 years of compounding or managerial experience. Preferred: 3-5 years of compounding or managerial experience in a chemical production environment.
